Image Guided Abdominal Abscess Drainage- How to Prepare

You should wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing on the day of your image guided abdominal abscess drainage. However, you may be asked to wear a gown during the exam.

You should report to your radiologist or technologist all of the medications you are taking and any allergies, specifically to local anesthetic medications, general anesthesia, or contrast materials containing iodine, and any medical conditions or recent illnesses.

Your physician may advise you to stop taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs or blood thinners for a specific period of time before your procedure.

If sedation is required for the procedure, you may be instructed to fast 6 – 12 hours prior to the exam.

Women should always inform their radiologist or technologist if there is any possibility that they are pregnant.
