Abdominal Fluoroscopy- How to Prepare

You should wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing on the day of your abdominal fluoroscopy. However, you may be asked to wear a gown during the exam.

To ensure the best possible image quality, your stomach must be empty on the day of your abdominal fluoroscopy exam. You will likely be instructed not to eat or drink anything, including any oral medications, and to refrain from chewing gum after midnight on the day of the exam.

You may be asked to remove all jewelry, removable dental appliances, eye glasses and any metal objects or clothing that might interfere with the x-ray images.

Be sure to tell your radiologist or technologist of any allergies, recent illnesses and health conditions.

Women should always inform their radiologist or technologist if there is any chance that they are pregnant.
